Q: I can’t log into my account, what am I to do?
A: Well, either one of two things have happened. You have simply typed in the wrong password or forgotten it. Use the password recovery option. If your password does not come in your email within 24 hours, the account is either gone or someone else is now in control of it. DO NOT give out your password to anyone for any reason. Q: How To Unlock Password-protected Memory Card ? A: For S60 1st and 2nd Phones What should we do if we forget the password? For S60 1st and some of 2nd phones, such as Nokia 3650, Nokia 6600 and Nokia N-Gage, the password is stored in a plain text file. 1) You need to install FExplorer, a free file manager that allows us to browser through S60 file system. 2) Launch FExplorer and then browser to c:\system folder. There is a file, called mmcstore. 3) Rename the file to mmcstore.txt and then open it. Your password must be several characters at the end of the file. For S60 3rd Phones, Nokia N-Series and Nokia E-Series Unfortunately, there is no way to recover the password in the latest S60 phones. The only way that I know so far is by reformatting the memory card. It can be done from Memory Card application by selecting Options Format memory card menu . Q: Setup Your Bluetooth Mobile As A Modem, For PC & MAC A: start the connection wizard ![]() Click on connect to the internet ![]() select Dial-up connection select bluetooth modem ![]() know name the connection ![]() enter is the phone number of your internet provider. When you use GPRS, you generally have to enter *99# to make your phone call the GPRS connection. If you use a dialin-connection to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) ![]() click any you like ![]() your now finished with creating the connection ![]() enable bluetooth on both devices, and activate the modem connection from the start menu ![]() enter your username and password ![]() Q: Changing Fonts On S60 Phones ! A: Yes you read the subject correctly! And its very easy too! Before I start with the tutorial, take a look at the pics below, those are the ones I tried on my phone (6600 firmware v5). ![]() Modern Font (IMG:http://img68.exs.cx/img68/6797/tahoma33ei.jpg) Tahoma Also prior to installing this fonts, I suggest you install FExplorer on your phone. Ok so here goes... Step 1. Download the fonts HERE. Step 2. In the Zip file you will see + FontRemover.sis + tahoma.sis + modern.sis + set3v3.sis + mssans.sis + symbol.gdr + comic.gdr Step 3. Then send the FontRemover.sis to your phone and install it. Once installed, launch the application and it should ask you if you want to delete font. Click on Yes and it should tell you to reboot your phone. Do NOT reboot first. Step 4. Now send one of the font sis files, lets say modern.sis to your phone and install it to your C drive (your phone, NOT mmc). Once installed then reboot your phone. Step 5. When it starts, you should see the default fonts replaced by the ones you have just installed. Now I cant stress this more but you need to understand that you can only use ONE FONT at one time. If you want to use another font, you will have to go back to step 3 & 4. As for the .gdr files, you will need to do it this way. Step 1. Use FontRemover to remove the fonts. Step 2. Open FExplorer and goto C:\system and create a "fonts" folder as shown below. (IMG:http://img30.exs.cx/img30/9496/fonts1rm.jpg) Step 3. Send the .gdr file to your phone. Do not open it as it will say unknown file format. Step 4. Find the file in your mail folders (C or E:\system\mail\00001001_S\0-9, a-f) using FExplorer. Step 5. Copy or Cut the file and then paste it to the C:\system\fonts folder. Step 6. Exit FExplorer and then reboot you phone. So its that simple. In my testing, I found that some fonts like tahoma & mssans does not make much different (well atleast to me) as the modern font did. Good luck! Q: Security Certificate Error When Installing A:If you get certificate error when attempting to install the program or themes on your S60 3rd Edition smartphone, it means that you haven enabled installation of unsigned SIS files. Go to Tools -> App. Manager, choose Options -> Settings and set Software installation to All and Online certif. check to Off. Q: How to install apps/themes on a series 60 device, Including N Series A:1: Transfer the .sis file to your phone via IR/BT/Cable,(or wap using the wap id). 2: Locate the .sis file using the built in "File Manager" app (in the tools menu),and install the theme to the location of your choice (mmc/phone memory). 3: You can now delete the .sis file. 4: Click on Themes in the main menu, and move left or right to select the memory location you installed the theme to,then select "apply" Last edited by sheenan; 04-25-2008 at 03:33 AM. |

RAR Files
Explained in Plain English Download This Software - WinRar RAR is currently the most efficient method for compressing files. RAR works like ZIP files do on Windows, and like Stuff-It files do on the Mac. RAR files are 'archives' which can contain one or more compressed files. RAR files can also be segmented into smaller chunks, which is why RAR has become dominant in the binary newsgroups (groups whose names begin with 'alt.binaries'). If you have a RAR file, you probably downloaded it with a file-sharing program, or you got it from a binary newsgroup, which are a zillion times faster than file-sharing programs. If you used a file-sharing program, all you need to do is un-RAR the file. See below for the free software you will need. In the binary newsgroups, RAR is used to compress large files such as movies and MP3's. As people post larger and larger files, it has become more important to compress them down as much as possible. That's why RAR and yEnc were invented, and that is why they have caught on so fast. Typically, a poster will compress his file with RAR. Then he will post it using the yEnc standard which will make his posts smaller than the default UUencode standard. Then he will make, and post, some PAR files to make sure people can get clean copies of the RAR files. So first, you must have a news-reader program like NewzScape that will download, assemble, and decode the yEnc posts. After that, you will have a set of files that look like this: somefile.part01.rar somefile.part02.rar somefile.part03.rar Or, using the older naming convention, like this: somefile.r00 somefile.r01 somefile.r02 When a giant file is compressed with RAR, it must be posted to a newsgroup in hundreds, maybe thousands, of pieces because the newsgroups were originally designed for small text messages. (Send your complaints to Al Gore, inventor of the internet.) The more pieces, the more likely some will not come through completely intact. To solve this problem, PAR was invented. PAR files are able to magically fix, and even re-create missing files (whether or not they are compressed with RAR.) So, you will usually want to check your RAR files with their associated PAR files before decompressing. Read our PAR page for how to do that. To decompress your RAR files, use NewzToolz which is a free program for Windows and Mac OSX. A poster may post his RAR files without PAR files. Maybe the RAR's will be ok, maybe not, but there will be no way for you to fix them if there is a problem. You may want to download something else, or ask the poster to make and post some PAR files. A poster may post RAR's without using yEnc or vice versa, or he may post PAR's for a file that is not compressed with RAR or yEnc. You will find that posters use a wide variety of methods. In general, download files that come with a set of PAR's; that way you are pretty much guaranteed to get something usable. A last resort to fix a corrupted file is to find somebody with a good copy and ask him to make some PAR's for you. This may sound a bit on the elaborate side, however it is this way because the person posting the file must spend a lot of time and effort to do so. Naturally, he wants the process to go as quickly as possible. Posting a 4.5 gigabyte DVD can take a while, right? So, you can't blame the poster for using things like DIVX, yEnc, and RAR to make his life easier. Consequently, you will need to learn a few things to get started, and from time-to-time you will have to download some new software to stay current with the latest methods. But it is not that difficult, and the reward is more media than you will ever be able to consume. Last edited by Mandar; 01-28-2008 at 03:21 PM. |
