Gridrunner++ is a mobile conversion of the classic Jeff Minter game.
It’s got all the right ingredients for a good shoot-em-up - colour cycling, particles, sheep, frantic attack waves, power-ups, sheep….
It’s ideal for mobile as it always has autofire…mobile phones don’t like lots of simultaneous key presses, so a shoot-em-up with autofire designed-in from the outset wouldn’t lose anything when converted to small screen.
It wasn’t an easy task converting something that expects megabytes of memory to something that only has kilobytes. After lots of tricks and optimisations, I managed to keep all 50 levels in there and most of the visual special effects.
Even now I still find myself having “a quick go”, then some time later looking up and it’s dark outside….
